Durant Days began in 1999 as a weekend of activities devoted to honoring the accomplishments of  William West Durant, 1850 - 1934.  Lake Durant is named in his memory.

 

From 1874 to 1904 Durant was the architect of the first artistic Adirondack Great Camps, organizer of the Raquette Lake Railway and the Marion River Carry Railroad, founder of the steamboat line, builder of churches, telegraph lines and much more.

 

Activities include tours of two Great Camps, cruises on the W.W. Durant (a replica of the steamer Adirondack), free square dancing, free parade of the wooden boats, talks on the history of the area and much more.
